PARADISE, BUTTE COUNTY — October 22, 2026. Residents who need to dispose of old residential solar panels have a limited October opportunity: Butte County is running a free, appointment-only recycling pilot at the Neal Road Recycling and Waste Facility in Paradise.
Dates, address, and eligibility
The official county announcement lists collection dates October 15, 16, 22, 23, 29 and 30, 2026. As of October 22, the remaining scheduled dates include Friday, October 23, and Thursday–Friday, October 29–30. The site is 1023 Neal Road, Paradise, CA 95969.
The county says participation is free but restricted to Butte County residents and solar panels originating in Butte County. Each household may submit one registration, and an appointment is required. This is not an invitation to arrive with commercial loads or leave panels outside a locked facility.
What is being funded?
The pilot involves Butte County Public Works and the California Product Stewardship Council. The county identified a $50,000 Household Hazardous Waste grant awarded in February 2026 as the funding source. The grant amount is for the program, not a refund promised to individual participants.
Why proper recycling matters
Solar panels are large composite electronic products. An old module should not be left by the roadside or dumped into ordinary waste without following facility rules. Residents should ask the organizer for preparation, transport and panel-type instructions and avoid assuming broken or contaminated equipment will be accepted without inspection.
Use the county’s official Neal Road events page to confirm available appointments and registration, or consult the October 16 county announcement. Capacity and schedules may change; California58 has not independently verified open appointment slots.
